30th Colloquium on Fatigue Mechanism

On 23 and 24 April 2024, the Institute of Physics of Materials hosted the 30th Colloquium on Fatigue Mechanisms. Thanks to the organizational team led by prof. Ludvík Kunz and prof. Tomáš Kruml, and also thanks to many participating researchers from Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, the colloquium series was successfully restarted after several-year interruption caused by the pandemic.

The colloquium followed its traditional format:

  • unformal face to face meeting, no online participation,
  • PhD students were welcome,
  • plenty of time for discussion,
  • strengthening of professional contacts,
  • a focus on fatigue damage and fatigue lifetime.

The informal meeting has a long tradition with origins going back to early 1970s and is associated with such big names in the field of fatigue as prof. M. Klesnil, prof. P. Lukáš (both IPM CAS), prof. G.K. Schmidt (PH Dresden), prof. S. Kocanda (Military University of Technology Warsaw), prof. V.T. Troshchenko (G.S. Pisarenko Institute for Problems of Strength Kyiv), later joined by prof. H. Mughrabi (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg), prof. J. Petit (University of Poitiers), prof. C. Holste (Technische Universität Dresden), prof. M. Zehetbauer (University of Vienna) and many others.

The next meeting, i.e. the 31st Colloquium on Fatigue Mechanisms, will be organized by Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany in Spring 2025.
