Anotace
There are three main objectives of the proposed research: (i) a (positive) effect of the Nb additions on the strength, ductility, fracture toughness, creep resistance and low cycle fatigue strength of near-gamma TiAl alloys should be assessed and explained on the microstructural basis, (ii) a relation between mechanical characteristics of the Nb-alloyed TiAl (over 2 at% of Nb) and the alloy processing route will be rationalized for the combination of induction skull melting (ISM) and remelting invacuum induction furnace furnished with a refractory crucible (VIM) and (iii) the application potential of the new class of intermetallics will be demonstrated in investment casting trials (turbocharger wheels) with the Ti-46Al-7Nb-x-x alloy. The proposed project builds upon results obtained by the applicant and co-applicant in last eleven years in systematic studies of the high temperature strength, microstructure and physical metallurgy of the near-gamma TiAl alloys.
