CEITEC – Central European Institute of Technology

CEITEC (Central European Institute of Technology) is an interdisciplinary research centre that is focused on life sciences, advanced materials, and nanotechnologies. The centre employs excellent researchers from all over the world, who are committed to fulfilling CEITEC’s mission of improving quality of life and human health.
The CEITEC Centre represents a consortium made up of the organisational parts of the founding institutions: Masaryk University, Brno University of Technology, Mendel University, Veterinary and Pharmaceutical University, Institute of Physics of Materials CAS and Veterinary Research Institute.

Since its foundation in 2011, the centre attracts top EU grants and has managed to develop its reputation as a centre of excellence. CEITEC performs among the best science institutes in the Czech Republic, and is above average on the European level. The institute employs excellent scientists from all over the world and is raising a new generation of researchers in its international PhD School.
The multidisciplinary nature of CEITEC, and the extent to which the fields of life sciences, advanced materials, and nanotechnologies are integrated with each other, make it the first research centre of its kind in the Czech Republic. Research at CEITEC covers the following seven research areas: Advanced Nano and Microtechnologies, Advanced Materials, Structural Biology, Genomics and Proteomics of Plant Systems, Molecular Medicine, Brain and Mind Research, and Molecular Veterinary Medicine.

CEITEC IPM

CEITEC IPM is focused on the interdisciplinary field of materials science. The focus of its activity consists mainly in the basic research of metallic materials. The physical nature of the processes taking place in metallic materials during different types of mechanical loading as well as an investigation of the physical properties of selected materials represent the main aim of our interest. In both these areas of research we want to clarify the relationship between the behavior and properties of materials and their structural characteristics and microstructures.

The director of the CEITEC IPM unit is doc. Ing. Luboš Náhlík, Ph.D. Mainly research groups of Multi-scale modelling and measurement of physical properties and Advanced metallic materials and metal-based composites are involved in the activities of CEITEC centre.
