Twinning manipulation by altering the local microstructural conditions in magnesium alloys
| Investigator | Dr. Ing. Filip Šiška, Ph.D. |
| Number of Project | GA25-16210S |
| Agency | Grantová agentura České republiky |
| Duration | 2025-01-01 - 2027-12-31 |
Anotace |
| The main objective of the project is to understand the effects of local microstructural conditions such as grain boundaries, crystal orientation, dislocations arrangements and precipitates on the dynamics of the twinning process in magnesium alloys. The complexity of twinning in 3D will be analyzed over a wide range of length- and time-scales by using the synergic combination of advanced in-situ experimental techniques with state-of-the-art numerical methods. The experimental methods allow high spatio-temporal resolution such as high-resolution electron microscopy, acoustic emission (AE), or ultra-high-speed digital imaging. The numerical analysis will use molecular dynamics and phase-field crystal plasticity models. Analysis of relations between microstructure and twinning dynamics will help to set rules for the design of magnesium alloys with controlled twinning. |
