The Institute of Physics of Materials CAS will once again take part in the Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences, held from 3–9 November 2025. Visitors can look forward to guided laboratory tours, the lecture “Quantum Forge”, and the science show “Tear It Up!” – all taking place on 6 and 7 November.
We invite the general public to visit our institute during the Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The programme will run on Thursday 6 November and Friday 7 November 2025, offering a variety of activities for schools and the public.
🔬 Guided Laboratory Tours (Thursday 6 November, 9:00–16:00)
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the state-of-the-art laboratories of the Institute of Physics of Materials.
You will see facilities for testing mechanical, electrical, and magnetic properties, modern electron microscopes, and a 3D printer for ceramic composites.
The tour also includes a visit to the newly opened Centre for Electron Microscopy, featuring both scanning and transmission electron microscopes and dedicated facilities for specimen preparation.

⚛️ Lecture “Quantum Forge” and Science Show “Tear It Up!”
Both events will take place on Thursday (9:00, 11:00, 13:00) and Friday (9:00, 11:00).
The lecture Quantum Forge will introduce you to the fascinating world of quantum computers, explaining how they work, why they represent a technology of the future, and how they may influence modern industry.
It is followed by the science show Tear It Up!, which demonstrates the principles of physics and engineering in an interactive and entertaining way.
