An interactive exhibition prepared by the Institute of Materials Physics of the CAS opens the door to the world of materials that shape our past, present, and future.
A new exhibition entitled Genius Material has opened at the VIDA! Science Centre in Brno, inviting visitors to explore the fascinating world of materials—from ancient history to cutting-edge technologies. Through 18 interactive exhibits, visitors can discover how materials are used in medicine, industry, sports, and scientific research. Some exhibits can be touched and tested, others reveal microscopic images, while some uncover material properties that are not visible at first glance.
The exhibition highlights that the development of materials is closely linked to the development of human society. From early stone tools through alloys and steel to metal 3D printing, composites, and nanotechnologies, humanity’s effort to understand and improve materials has driven major technological and medical advances. Visitors will learn, for example, that iron oxides are not just rust but can also play a role in cancer treatment, or that material fatigue can lead to the failure of critical components such as railway axles.
Special attention is given to composite materials inspired by nature, which combine low weight with exceptional strength and are widely used in aviation, energy, space research, and elite sports. The exhibition offers a unique insight into a world that usually remains hidden, yet is essential for the functioning of modern civilisation.
The Genius Material exhibition was prepared by the Institute of Materials Physics of the CAS and is included in the general admission to VIDA! Science Centre. From Tuesday to Friday between 4:00 and 6:00 PM, visitors can also take advantage of discounted admission 90 CZK.
