It may be hard for some to imagine, but at Colours of Ostrava, it’s simply a reality. The festival’s 23rd edition brought together musical experiences and scientific discussion forums! From July 15–18, the unique industrial complex of Dolní oblast Vítkovice was transformed into one of Central Europe’s liveliest cultural venues. And the Czech Academy of Sciences was there on its own stage – the Curiosity Stage!
“The Academy of Sciences’ stage is called the Curiosity Stage because curiosity is what unites scientists and festival visitors alike. It’s the courage to ask questions, to discover, and to not settle for simple answers,” said Radomír Pánek, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, on Wednesday, July 15, at the festival’s opening.
At the Curiosity Stage, festival visitors could be transported to the frigid Svalbard Islands and to the scorching heat of Africa; they could learn about their own brains and put them to the test in the “Beat the Know-It-All!” quiz! The Curiosity Stage program, organized by the Czech Academy of Sciences, spanned a wide range of scientific disciplines. We participated with the “Destructive Science Show: Trhni si!,” featuring our colleagues from the Institute of Physics of Materials — Jan Klusák and Eva Zabloudilová.
