Martin Friák presented quantum computers at the Science Fair 2026 and there was no seat left in the auditorium.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, Martin Friák gave his lecture „Quantum computers: a revolution in sight“ at the 2026 Science Fair and it was „sold out“ again. More precisely, all seats had already been reserved in advance and some of some visitors were standing or sitting on the floor. The lecture was a part of the Science point program and Martin Friák was speaking on the topic of quantum computers for the third time in a row – so strongly this topic resonates with the visitors to the Science Fair. Similarly as in the previous years, the lecture explained the technology of quantum computers, their exponential potential as well as possible threats that quantum computers may pose.
A lot of news was added, too. For example, the launch of the Czech Quantum Innovation Center, which is a consortium of 8 academic institutions (CTU, CU, MU, BUT, UPOL, UD, UWB and the CAS) coordinated at CTU in Prague, within which scientists and students can calculate on IBM quantum computers. Another news item related to the first week of June 2026 was that users of the IT4Innovations supercomputer center at VŠB TUO in Ostrava could compute on the VLQ quantum computer located at IT4I for the first time. If we imagine quantum computing as a train, that is leaving the platform and accelerating at an exponential pace, then this year may be the last one offering a chance to catch this train.
