This long-standing international colloquium once again brought together experts in fatigue research to share the latest findings and discuss current scientific challenges.
On 25–26 February 2026, the 32nd Colloquium on Fatigue Mechanisms took place in Vienna. With a tradition dating back to the early 1970s, this respected scientific meeting focuses on fatigue mechanisms and lifetime assessment of materials and structures. This year’s edition was hosted at University BOKU, organised by the Institute of Physics and Materials Science and the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Defect Tolerance of Steels in the High and Very High Cycle Fatigue Regime.
Our institute was strongly represented at the event – 18 colleagues attended, and 6 of them delivered presentations showcasing their current research. The contributions highlighted not only recent results, but also methodological approaches, experimental challenges and limitations related to fatigue damage assessment. The discussions following the presentations once again confirmed the high scientific level of the colloquium and the importance of international collaboration in this field.
Participating in the colloquium is not only an opportunity for us to present our research activities, but also to exchange ideas, gain inspiration, and further strengthen professional partnerships across institutions.
We sincerely thank the organizers for hosting this year’s edition and look forward to continuing this long-standing tradition next year.
