As usual, our institute participated in the Science Fair in Prague organized by the Czech Academy of Sciences. From 5-7 June 2025, visitors to this event could peek under the hands of scientists in more than a hundred booths. And there was plenty to see!
There was something for all ages at our stand. The youngest scientists were fascinated by the electric train and the colours in the photoelastic phenomenon, while the older students were thrilled by the change in magnetic properties by simply hitting a wire with a hammer. But the biggest success across generations was the giant model of Charpy’s hammer (a materials testing device), where we tested how much visitors trusted physics.
For those interested in gaining a deeper understanding, there were several lectures on each day. Martin Friák from our institute gave two of them. The first was on Friday in the Kepler Hall on the topic of Quantum Computers: Hope or Threat? and the second one on Saturday morning on the topic Quantum Computers: Revolution in sight. And there were a lot of quantum enthusiasts – the Science Point was filled to capacity.
We thank all the small and large participants for visiting our stand and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic for the excellent organization of the whole Science Fair. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
