Phase Stability and Plasticity in Medium-to-High-Entropy Alloys

Research focuses on a new class of quaternary and quinary single-phase CoCrFeMnNi solid solutions that exhibit medium-tohigh configurational entropy. Their successful processing results from a technological progress achieved in last few years, therefore, very little is known concerning, e.g., their phase stability and microstructural development during high temperature loadings. The research addresses two open questions: (i) how does the high temperature stability and strength of these systems depend on the alloy processing parameters and (ii) how does the transition from the quinary system to the quaternary sub-systems influence the mechanical properties. We expect the following main results: (i) first ever published data on the relation between creep mechanisms in the quinary single-phase CoCrFeMnNi alloy and its microstructural state and (ii) a microstructurally based scenario accounting for the unusually strong temperature dependence of flow stress based on the system complexity (on the configuration entropy).
